Four Ways to practice self-love

‘’ Lacking self-love can then push us into the arms of people and situations who do not have good intentions for us.’’

I think that we have all been in a situation where we have multiple insecurities at once. We look in the mirror and cannot find a single thing that we like about our appearance or we take on something that somebody said and internalize it. Lacking self-love can then push us into the arms of people and situations who do not have good intentions for us. We often turn to temporary fixes such as jumping into relationships, online shopping, maybe even drugs. However, without doing the inner-work, such problems cannot be fixed. Here are some ways in which you can learn to love yourself. Believe me, it will not be an easy journey but you certainly won’t regret it. Self-love can take years, but be patient and trust the process.

You have to live with yourself every single day, so try your best to make your thoughts on who you are positive.

  • Work on your self-talk. Do you talk to yourself like a friend or an enemy? You have to live with yourself every single day, so try your best to make your thoughts on who you are positive. Instead of constantly telling yourself what you need to change, appreciate who you are right now in this moment. Feed yourself with compliments instead of waiting for them from others. Tell yourself that you’re beautiful even when wearing loungewear and let yourself know how proud you are of yourself for accomplishing a new project. On the days when you don’t feel your best, practice self-compassion. How you speak to yourself determines a lot.

Separate yourself from toxic people because you love yourself too much to be around bad company.”

  • Practice healthy living. Taking care of yourself is true self-love. Workout not only to achieve your fitness goals (if you have them) but also to become stronger in your body. Separate yourself from toxic people because you love yourself too much to be around bad company. Be vulnerable with those that you trust because you deserve to be seen, heard and appreciated. Eat nutritious food so that you can feel your best and groom well so that you can appreciate your appearance. Your mind, body and soul is your home, look after it and live well.

‘’Start living regret-free.’’

  • Do all of the things that you want to experience. Do you ever sit in bed and have regrets about what you didn’t go after because you felt like you weren’t good enough? Well start living regret-free. It can be really hard to put yourself out there and eventually you will. It just takes time and practice. Maybe begin by starting up that business that you have always dreamt about, saying yes to the things that you love more and creating the life that you have always wanted. Nothing says I love you more than building your own life.

Set boundaries on things that make you feel uncomfortable.

  • Take care of your mental wellbeing. Many of us push our own needs aside to accommodate others but what about you? Set boundaries on things that make you feel uncomfortable. Boundaries aren’t selfish, they are set to prevent resentment and suffering. Practice distressing when you find yourself in situations that feel stressful, maybe try meditating or yoga. Talk to someone and do not suppress your emotions. You can also read self-help books or listen to podcasts. Really protect your mental health.

Of course there are other things that you can do to practice self-love. Some people will tell you to put on a face mask, curl your hair and put on an outfit that makes you feel good but the truth is self-love is not just surface level. It always starts from the inside out.

Wishing you the best of luck!

Love,
